Essential Hypertension

In Essential Hypertension, there is no clear cause but there are known risk factor which can contribute to hypertension, these factors can affect blood pressure, including:

  • How much water and salt you have in your body
  • The condition of your kidneys, nervous system, or blood vessels
  • The levels of different body hormones

Blood pressure also increases as people get older, blood vessels become less compliant (less distensible) because elastin . High blood pressure increases your chance of having a stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, and early death.

Factors that contribute to an increased risk in hypertension are:

  • African Americans
  • Obesity
  • Stress/anxiety
  • Excess salt consumption
  • Have a family history of high blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Smoke

If hypertention is a result of such conditions as kiney failure or heart conditions it maybe Secondary hypertention.
