Diagnosis

 Diagnosis is carried out by a health care professional who performs a physical exam and checks your blood pressure. If the measurement is high, it is possible you may have hypertension. Multiple measurements need to be taken over time, so that the diagnosis can be confirmed.

 

Other tests may be done to look for blood in the urine or heart failure. Your doctor will examine you for damage caused by hypertension to your heart, kidneys, eyes, and other organs in your body.
